64 Colour Kit Tutorial
A long yet effective 64 colour kit Tutorial for FIFA 2000

Software required:
• Adobe Photoshop 3, 4, 5, 5.5 (either) (A fairly good working knowledge is ideal)
• FSH SONIQUE or the EA graphics editor

Follow this step by step carefully.

Step 1.

Choose a standard FIFA 2000 kit to modify. (Pk01 => Pk050.fsh in \fifa2000\data\players\textures). I prefer to use a plain white one.

Using the ea graphics editor or fsh sonique save just the 3 highres versions of the kit as bmps. (I'll explain later). i.e. hjfr.bmp, hjbx.bmp, hslv.bmp

Load the images (hjfr.bmp, hjbx.bmp, hslv.bmp). Specifically for this tutorial into Adobe Photoshop 3 -> 5.5.

(fig1)

Convert all the images from Indexed colour (8bit,256) to RGB (24bit,16.7mil).

(Don't worry about palettes at this stage).

Step 2.

Create your jersey front/back/sleeves any way you want using as many and whatever colours you wish.

(fig2)

Don't worry about limiting your colours, shades etc. as the finished graphic will look EXACTLY as it does in photoshop as it will in the game. (Excusing the usual stretches and overlaps).

Once you have those 3 high res images done save them all as photoshop documents (*.psd):
hjfr.psd
hjbx.psd
hslv.psd

Now to create the medium and low resolution images. Take one of the images e.g. hjfr.psd, make it smaller by 50 percent, click SAVE AS and call it Mjfr.psd and there you have your medium jersey.

Repeat the scale with this image and save as Ljfr.psd.

Repeat that for Hjbx.psd and Hslv.psd.

Right, now you have 9 photoshop files in 24bit colour.

(Fig3)

**Make sure you keep the 24bit versions saved!!**

Choose your Hi-res front jersey graphic (hjfr.psd). Goto the image menu => mode => indexed color. Use the following settings:

Palette: Adaptive
Colors: 64
Forced: None
NO transparency
NO Dither or Matte

You should still have a nice looking kit even though its only 64 colours.

Step 3.

Now here's the tricky but effective part which allows you to use those exact 64 colours you have just created in conjunction with the FIFA 2000 palette.

Get your color table up for your recently created HJFR.psd (Image menu > color table) - Do a screengrab (alt + printscreen), paste it into a new image in photoshop.

Re-open your palette dialogue box for the HJFR.psd and position the palette just below your screengrab.

(Fig4)

All we are doing here is transfering the 64 colours from no's 0-63 to 192-255.

Now you must click on each blank colour in the palette starting at 192 and with the eyedropper tool move up to the equivalent colour in the screengrab then press return to confirm.. (Fig4 again)

Repeat this for colours 193-255.

Now you should have a palette which looks something like this.

(Fig5)

Next we must blank out those colours from 0-63, to do this simply click on no.63 hold down the mouse button and drag diagonally to the first colour 0. Let go and you will get the colour dialog box, choose black and press ok. If asked to do so press ok again.

Don’t worry about leaving colours 0 -> 191 in black as this doesn’t have any effect in the game itself.

Now you have this palette.

(fig6)

Click save and call it something appropriate e.g. arsenalhome.act

Step 4.

Reload the 9 psd files back in.

Now we are applying our new palette to the jersey graphics.

Click on the first image e.g. hjfr.psd. Goto the image menu -> mode -> indexed color.

Merge layers if asked.

In the dialog box choose custom palette then click load and choose your palette file (arsenalhome.act)

(Fig 7)

Click ok to apply the palette. Choose file>save as. Save this as a bmp (hjfr.bmp).

**Repeat this for the other 8 psd files**.

At last!! you now have 9 completed 64 colour jersey BMP's!!

Now all you need to do is reimport them back into the fsh file using FSH sonique or EA graphics editor.

Replace the new fsh file into your \fifa2000\data\players\textures folder.

Run FIFA 2000, goto customise screen, choose your team and cycle through the jerseys till yours appears.

You'll notice that you don't have to change any of the shirt colours as they are using those last 64 in the palette!

I've included the Arsenal home jersey I did this way just to help you. (arsenalhome.fsh)

If you are not happy with how it appears in the game and you want to change any of the graphics in you jersey just use the high res psd's and repeat step 4**

**
Its not worth amending the medium or low res versions as they are not used in the Close-Up shots.

I'm sorry if this tutorial is a bit lengthy and tiresome but I tried to go into as much detail as I thought it was needed in order for you all to create your own 64 colour jerseys.
